Did you know Titanium compressor wheels aren’t just for track & race cars?
Titanium compressor wheels come stock on many OEM heavy duty turbos.
Why? Because compressor wheels take a beating from just their normal everyday use in these applications. Trucks or equipment handle heavy loads, generate tremendous sustained heat and encounter a lot of starts and stops.
Cast compressor wheels will bend, flex, warp and even break under these types of loads. This is where titanium comes in.
A titanium wheel is not only lighter than its cast or aluminum counterparts (which helps it to spool up faster) but it will also handle higher heat and withstand higher pressures without warping and going out of balance. This causes loss of boost and leads to seal/bearing failure and even catastrophic damage that takes out the engine.
Titanium compressor wheels can be 3-4 times more expensive than cast or even aluminum compressor wheels, BUT your truck or equipment will be able to handle the workload you throw at it and keep your turbo running smoother longer.
If you have an OEM turbo and its equipped with a Titanium compressor wheel, REBUILD IT, DON’T REPLACE IT.
Many aftermarket turbos use an aluminum or cast one in its place (to cut costs) and its almost certain to fail in a fraction of the time of a Titanium equipped version.
